Five reasons to buy a Vespa scooter in 2009 1/ Although the cost of petrol has declined in recent weeks from it's summertime record levels petrol prices are still high and the cost of running a car is becoming more and more expensive. An average family car normally runs approximately 40 miles to the gallon. Vespa scooters typically run at between 70 - 120 miles to the gallon ! 2/ The cost of filling a standard family car up with petrol could be anything between £ 30 to £ 70. The cost of filling a Vespa scooter up is around £ 8 - £ 10 !! 3/ All scooters and mopeds are exempt from congestion charge which makes another great reason to buy a Vespa scooter ! 4/ Getting a scooter on the road is a lot cheaper than with a car. Road Tax is between £ 15 to £ 65 depending on the size of the engine. Third party insurance for a rider under 19 years old is typically around £ 160 a year but if you're over 40 then you can pay as little as £ 35. 5/ There are other makes of scooters in the market but only the Vespa has reached icon status. The Vespa is the only choice if you want to combine practicality with Italian style.
